Automobiles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Police stated they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
